Hello, my name is Theresa, and I am the person who likes to read boy scout handbooks and who likes to forage in the woods and waysides for meals. I actually used Field and Stream as a reading book for my son when he was in the fourth grade. I have always been interested in survival skills and remember when I was younger wanting to be a tribal witch doctor for a living. I am into medicinal herbs, edible wild plants, outdoorsy craft things, I remember a friend of mine and I making atl atl’s (spear chuckers) with a group of kids at church one year, and trying to start a fire with a bow drill. (John kept sweating and put out the spark he had made.)
I have used my aquarium to raise everything from perch, to soft shelled turtles, to crawdads that my kids had caught in the creek. I have made wild blackberry pies and jam from berries that we picked along the gravel roads. I have eaten lucious pawpaw fruit and persimmons, and cattail roots, and who knows how many wild green salads. I have made flour from acorns, and soup from wild salsafy. I hope that you will join me in sharing with you about things that I love, and skills that I feel we all could use.
